Komatsugawa Sakaigawa Water Park in Edogawaku Tokyo

Komatsugawa Sakaigawa Water Park is a park along a stream running through the central part of
Edogawaku from the north to the south. It was built after Furukawa Water Park on
between
Edogawa and
Shinkawa River. It is 3,930 meters long park from Sugawara Bashi Bridge to Nakagawa River.
According to a map edited in 1880, the river started as two small streams
in rice fields in Kami Komatsugawa village and it went down and finally
joined Shinkawa River near Shinkawa havinig joined Nakagawa River. Now
the juncture of the rivers is under Arakawa River.
Moreover,
Kafu Nagai, a famous writer in early 20th century, had often visited areas around Komatsugawa from 1948 to 1951. He wrote in his diary ' Danchotei Nichijo' that he walked in field in Komatsugawa in March 1st of 1948 and that he bought 18 liters of rice from a farmer in March 2nd of 1949. He was fond of walking around Komatsugawa areas. Though there are few rice fields and farming grounds but some large buildings such as the City Hall, the Culture Center, shopping centers and so forth stand now in the areas, Komatsugawa Water Park gives nature in such urban areas, many sakura blossoms bloom in spring and colored leaves changes the views over the streams in fall, it sounds like an oasis in urban areas. Why don't you visit the water park?
Komatsugawa Sakaigawa Water Park
The History of Komatsugawa Sakaigawa River
Komatsugawa Sakaigawa River was named since it went down in between Higashi
and Nishi Komatsugawa Village; 'Sakai' means a border. The river started
Kami Komatsugawa Village (now 4 chome Higashi Shinkoiwa in Katsushikaku),
then it went down and issued to Shinkawa River near the border of Nishi
Komatsugawa and Funabori Village.
In 1950's, the areas along Komatsugawa Sakaigawa River were urbanized;
sewage from residents and factories ran into it and the water was polluted.
Since drainage ditches started working, the sewage finished running into
it and it became a water park.
