Japanese loves seeing plum blossoms early spring, so they call it 'Umemi', a plum is called 'Ume' in Japanese. And some said that seeing plum blossoms was popular among people in Edo in Edo period, and samurais liked planting plum trees because of their fruits, Japanese loves Umeboshi. Kafu Nagai, a famous writer lived in Ichikawa after WWII, more loved plums than cherry blossoms, so he often searched for plum blossoms in early spring.
